"Grape stomping" is a traditional winemaking method in which harvested grapes are crushed by stomping on them with feet in an era when crushers did not exist. Historically, it was the most commonly used method. Grape stomping is still practiced today in Europe and other places as a seasonal event to pray for a good grape harvest.
