Legendary Bugs? PhD student Yun Hsiao from the Division of Ecology and Evolution at Australian National University has recently named three newly-discovered beetle species after the Legendary Pokémon trio Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
The beetles, belonging to genus Binburrum, were named such due to their "rareness", according to a tweet that Yun Hsiao posted earlier this year. The beetles, which were found in different regions of Australia, were given the scientific names Binburrum articuno, Binburrum zapdos, and Binburrum moltres. The paper describing these species is published on the April 2021 issue of The Canadian Entomologist journal.
