Sadism (German: Sadismus, English: sadism) or sadistic sexual desire is the sexual pleasure gained by physically abusing or mentally tormenting another person (including animals), or fantasizing about oneself engaging in such acts, or getting sexual arousal by imagining the expression of pain on the other person's face. If the diagnostic criteria are met, it is also considered a mental disorder, and in this case, a sexual perversion (paraphilia). In Japanese, colloquial terms for people with sadistic tendencies include sado, S, and doS.
