Pan is the god who watches over shepherds and their flocks of sheep. Like a satyr, he has quadrupedal hips and legs, and goat-like horns (→ beast-man). There are various theories about who Pan's parents were. His father is said to be either Zeus or Hermes, and his mother is said to be a nymph.
