Satyrs (Ancient Greek: σάτυρος, satyros, Latin: satyrus, English: satyr), plural satyroi (Ancient Greek: σάτυροι, satyroi) are half-human, half-beast nature spirits that appear in Greek mythology. They also appear in Roman mythology, and are often identified with the Roman forest spirit Faun and the Greek shepherd god Pan. They are described as "the embodiment of the fertility of nature, a mass of lust." There is a theory that the name comes from the phallus.
