[Old Testament, Exodus, Chapter 32] When the people saw that Moses was slow to come down from the mountain, they gathered round Aaron and said to him, "Come, make us gods that will go before us; for we do not know what has become of Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt." 2 Aaron said to them, "Take off the gold earrings that are on your wives, your sons and your daughters and bring them to me." undefined So all the people took off their gold earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 Aaron took them from their hands and made a shape with a tool, making it into a molten calf. And they said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt." undefined When Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation, saying, "Tomorrow is a festival to the Lord." undefined So the people rose up early the next morning and offered burnt offerings, and peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
